Jonathan Barnes is a New York City-based trumpet player. Born and raised just outside of Baltimore, he is now active in the New York and Philadelphia music scenes.
Jonathan maintains a busy performance schedule which spans genres such as jazz, latin, rock, and classical. His work as a freelance trumpet player has enabled him to share the stage with artists such as John Swana, Randy Brecker, David Liebman, Bobby Sanabria, Candido Camero, Seneca Black, Simone, Denis Diblasio, and George Rabbai. Jonathan has performed at New York venues such as the Jazz Standard, Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola, Symphony Space, Manhattan Center, and The Cutting Room, along with notable venues in Philadelphia such as the Kimmel Center and Chris' Jazz Cafe. He has also performed at the Verona Jazz Festival, the Telluride Jazz Celebration, and the Cape May Jazz Festival.
In addition to his work as a performer, Jonathan is currently pursuing a Master of Music degree in Jazz Performance from Manhattan School of Music. His teachers include Scott Wendholt, Jon Faddis, Garry Dial, Phil Markowitz, and Justin DiCioccio.
Jonathan is also an active music educator with students in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. Along with maintaining a private studio, Jonathan has presented master classes, taught big bands at the middle and high school levels, and worked with summer jazz camps.
