01/15/2012 — Navy Band

As some of you already know, I have accepted a position with the US Navy Band Commodores in Washington, DC. The Commodores are one of the premier military big bands in the country. I am really excited to be joining this prestigious ensemble!

I will be in basic training from February through the beginning of April, and then moving to DC immediately after completion. For those who are close, please continue to come out and support me in this latest musical journey!

11/29/2010 — The Trumpet Workshop

Exciting news! I am now a faculty member on TrumpetWorkshop.com. I spent an afternoon filming a bunch of new video content for the site, and my first video is now up. This is a great website where trumpet players can congregate to discuss all things trumpet, but especially jazz and improvisation.

The best part about this site is that it includes tons of video lessons by players like Joe Magnarelli, Barry Danielian, George Rabbai, Dennis Wasko, Matt Gallagher, and myself. This is a great opportunity to "study" with the pros for a nominal fee.

Just enter www.trumpetworkshop.com into your browser to get started. Hope to see you guys there!

10/28/2010 — New YouTube Videos!

I have uploaded some video clips from a performance that I did at Pitman Presbyterian Church for one of their Jazz Vespers. The band is made up of Brian Betz on guitar, Dan Monaghan on drums, and Madison Rast on bass.

In order to find them, try searching my name plus the word jazz, or my name in conjunction with the other band members' names.

09/15/2010 — Blog
I haven't updated my blog since February of this year and I apologize to those of you who have been waiting for the next post! I have many ideas which I would like to share on there and I am going to start posting again soon, so start checking back this week!

09/03/2010 — Summer

Now that the summer of 2010 is drawing to a close, I thought I'd share some of my experiences. I was involved in several music camps this summer, which gave me the opportunity to work with a lot of talented younger musicians and amazing faculties.

The Encore Summer Music Camp began at the end of June and ran for two weeks in Maryland. I was teaching beginning brass, brass chamber ensemble, theory, and jazz band. The other teachers at the camp were a lot of fun to work with and we had a great time working with all of the students.

Later in July, I worked as head counselor for the fourth summer in a row at the Rowan Jazz Camp in Glassboro, NJ. This camp is always a lot of fun as we get to work with amazing faculty and a small group of talented students. It feels like one big hang!

The last camp I worked with was in Camden, NJ with the Symphony in C's Souper Symphony Camp. This was my first year working with them and I was able to work closely with the trumpet players. In addition, my good friend Carl Schultz (and amazing tenor saxophonist) and I taught jazz improvisation classes.

Along with all of the summer camps, I played some really fun gigs over the summer. I played several gigs at the Jersey shore with the rock band, Hyperactive. I have been playing with them for a few years now and love the opportunity to play that style of music with such fun musicians.

Probably the biggest performance of my life so far came when I got the opportunity to play (as part of Bobby Sanabria's big band) with Larry Harlow and Ruben Blades at Lincoln Center. This was a free outdoor concert which drew a crowd of well over 15,000 people. The music was very happening and it was humbling to be a part of such an historic event.

As the summer ends and falls begins, I am again teaching at Rowan University. This semester I am teaching music appreciation as well as a music fundamentals class. I really love to teach and am glad to be a part of the adjunct faculty at Rowan. I will try to post news updates more frequently, so please check back often!

12/30/2009 — Updates!
Be sure to keep checking on my jazz trumpet blog as I have made several updates recently. I also added a nice, convenient, fun, spiffy link to the blog on the left hand side of this page (thanks to family for nagging me to do that, and to Josh for putting it up there for me). I have also created a channel on YouTube where I will be posting the video blog episodes if you prefer to view them over there. You can also check out more videos of me under the FAVORITES link in the channel. The link to my channel is www.youtube.com/mfconquistador

06/26/2009 — YouTube
A friend posted some videos on YouTube from my May 2009 gig at Chris' Jazz Cafe with George Rabbai. This is a link to the first video. Parts two and three should show up along the right hand side under "Related Videos."

06/25/2009 — Jazz Trumpet Blog
I have decided to start writing a jazz trumpet blog. This is where I'll post my thoughts on jazz, trumpet, education, and recordings that I'm listening to. Enjoy!
